“Speed and proper sail trim is not only for racers!”
(This course is in addition to the standard ASA progression of courses and is called “102” – which does not exist in the ASA progression. This course will be a prerequisite for ASA 106 (as is ASA 105) and for anybody looking to join our racing program.)
Although BRSS employees consider themselves cruising sailors, their extensive racing backgrounds have helped make their cruising safer and more fun! Tweaking sails, improving boat handling, playing currents and windshifts, and flying a spinnaker can increase your speed substantially, thus making it easier to make port before sunset, outrun an approaching storm, or simply pass all of the other boats around you because you can. You will be surprised at how much you can gain by putting in just a little more thought and effort!
This two day/one evening advanced course is taught aboard a late model Colgate 26 on day one, and a sporty J/80 on day two – giving our students a unique opportunity to learn how to manage both symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers – and will teach you what you need to know about sail shape controls, hull trim/balance, wind and current strategy, and spinnaker sailing.
