Bareboat Charter Certification Courses in Boston

This 4-day LIVEABOARD advanced sailing course provides the skills needed to charter a boat in many of the most popular sailing destinations throughout the world. After successfully completing this course, you will earn ASA Bareboat Chartering Certification. This course will provide you with a more advanced knowledge base, teaching you the essential skills you’ll need to safely command a boat up to 50ft on your own, in daylight, along the coastal waters of New England, the Caribbean, and beyond.

After successfully completing this course, you will qualify for our Charter Club which gives members access to our late model Hunter 36 and Beneteau 46 out of Rhode Island. You ALSO qualify for SailTime Boston membership, offering access to new, fully loaded Beneteau, Jeanneau, and FP catamarans between 35 and 44 feet in length!

Topics cover preparation, voyage planning, basic first aid afloat, crossing international borders, galley/head systems, advanced sail theory, heavy weather sailing maneuvers, crew positions & responsibilities, advanced mooring/docking/anchoring techniques, navigation, boat systems and troubleshooting, weather, tides, dinghy towing, and much more.

Each course provides up to 80 hours over 4 days in a live-aboard format, aboard a 33-49 ft cruising sailboat.

If you have at least ASA 104 Bareboat Cruising Certification, you can join Black Rock’s Charter Club and enjoy our small fleet of Hunter 33 and 36’s on a per diem basis after paying for a training/orientation session on each type of boat and/or location that you wish to charter from.

1:3 Ratio

Only three students per instructor – the best ratio in the industry. If a group of friends or two couples request to enroll together, we will permit a four to one ratio, but usually add an additional day of instruction (at no additional cost) to provide enough hands-on sailing time per person.
