DIRECTIONS

GENERAL DIRECTIONS: 

From North I-93

Take exit 28 (Sullivan Square/Charlestown).  At the rotary, take the first right onto Rutherford Avenue and pass Bunker Hill Community College. Stay to the left. At second light, turn left onto Chelsea Street. See “On Chelsea Street” directions below.

From North – Route 1
Follow Route 1 South over Tobin Bridge. Take the Charlestown exit. At the light, turn right onto Rutherford Avenue. At next light, turn left onto Chelsea Street. See “On Chelsea Street” directions below.

From South I-93

Take the I-93 tunnel. Stay in right lane. Take exit 28 (Sullivan Square/Charlestown). Go straight to the set of lights and turn right. At the rotary, take the first right onto Rutherford Avenue and pass Bunker Hill Community College. Stay to the left. At second light, turn left onto Chelsea Street. See “On Chelsea Street” directions below.

From West

Take Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) to the end. Take I-93 North and follow the directions above “From South.”

ONCE ON CHELSEA STREET: 

Take Chelsea Street past the USS Constitution and Navy Yard to your right.  The Tobin Bridge will eventually be above and to your left.

At the 4th stop light, turn right onto 13th Street and go down the hill where you can enter the MGH Parking Garage (THE BEST PARKING OPTION), or continue down 13th street (crossing 1st Avenue) if you wish to drop off someone at the circle just prior to the Charlestown Marina entrance.

PARKING:  

The primary and BEST place to park is within the “Building 199 Parking Garage” associated with MGH Institute.  This large parking garage is reasonably priced ($18/day as of 4/1/18), located just two blocks away from the Charlestown Marina entrance.

Street parking is mostly for residents only, BUT there are many places that have metered parking when you are just visiting for shorter amounts of time.

Weekday (M, T, W or T, W, Th) sailing courses/club members might be able to park within the actual marina lot for a fee!  I will learn more about this option asap!

WALKING TO OUR CLASSROOM: 

After parking, walk south along 13th Street until to get to the Marina gate.  The marina office and restrooms are located immediately to your left.  Black Rock’s classroom and office is located in the building out at the end of the Pier 8.  You will see our signage as you approach the building!

WHERE TO MEET:

• Plan on meeting inside our office/classroom at the pre-determined time UNLESS I have specifically instructed you to meet down at the docks.
• Please allow extra time for traffic and parking to avoid disrupting the class.

NOTE ON LUNCHES DURING CLASS:

• We highly recommend that you bring a lunch since delis and cafes are few and far between.
• We will take an 30+ minute lunch break on day one to digest the morning classroom session.  On day two and three, the lunch breaks could be less than 30 minutes.
• Always bring a water bottle or two to stay hydrated.  Don’t forget layers and sunscreen!

NOTE:  ALL Boston-based sailing courses are location at the Charlestown, Marina ,1 Pier 8, 13th Street Charlestown, MA 02129  .

THE FAN PIER LOCATION IS ONLY USED FOR OUR CLUB MEMBERS USING OUR FLEET OUT OF THIS LOCATION!

FROM LOGAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT & RT-1A (TED WILLIAMS TUNNEL):

• Follow signs toward I-90 West/Ted Williams Tunnel
• Take the Ted Williams Tunnel to Exit 25, South Boston (1st exit out of tunnel)
• At the top of the ramp, proceed straight onto B Street
• Turn left onto Seaport Boulevard
• Take your first major right onto East Service Road/Northern Avenue
• Now see “Once At Fan Pier” directions below…

RT-1 Southbound (TOBIN BRIDGE):

• Heading southbound on RT-1, go across the Tobin Bridge
• After the toll booth continue straight and around, following signs for I-93 South
• Get onto I-93 South and enter tunnel
• Now follow “From Points North Via. I-93” found below…

FROM POINTS NORTH VIA. I-93:

• Heading southbound on I-93 towards Boston, take Exit 23, Purchase Street, and get into the left lane
• Take your first left onto Seaport Boulevard, crossing the Moakley Bridge
• Turn left onto Northern Avenue
• East Service Road will be to your right
• Now see “Once At Fan Pier” directions below…

FROM POINTS SOUTH VIA. I-93:

• Heading Northbound on I-93 towards Boston, take Exit 20, which will be immediately after Exit 18
• Once on the exit ramp, follow signs for South Boston, staying in the right lane through the tunnel
• At the first set of lights at the end of the off-ramp, proceed straight onto East Service Road
• At the intersection of Seaport Boulevard, go straight onto Northern Avenue
• Now see “Once At Fan Pier” directions below…

FROM POINTS WEST VIA. I-90 (MASS. TURNPIKE):

• Follow I-90 East to Exit 25, South Boston
• At the top of the ramp, bear left towards Seaport Boulevard
• At the first set of lights, proceed straight onto East Service Road
• At next set of lights, go straight onto Northern Avenue
• Now see “Once At Fan Pier” directions below…

FROM STORROW DRIVE:

• Take Storrow Drive to Leverett Circle
• Follow signs for I-93 South
• Once on I-93 South, follow the “From Points North Via. I-93” directions above…

ONCE AT FAN PIER (on the East Service Road):

• There is a nice parking garage located under the One Marina Park office building.  Enter on the harbor-side of the building.  This building is right next to the marina where our boats are located.
• If you are simply stopping by for less than two hours, try any of the metered street parking options along East Service Road/Northern Avenue.  METERED PARKING IS FREE ON SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS.  TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS!

The ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) is located immediately on the marina where our boats are located.

FROM POINTS NORTH & EAST (BOSTON & CAPE COD) VIA. I-95 & I-195:

• Take exit 10A on I-95 and head EAST on Rt. 117
• Go straight approx. one mile through one rotary until you reach Rt. 1 (Post Road) at your second rotary
• Turn right (south) onto Rt. 1 (at this second rotary), go straight through a third rotary just to the south, and then travel approx. one mile through your first stop light.
• At the second light (just after the first stop light), turn left onto Masthead Drive (large sign for “Chelo’s Restaurant” on left corner) and go down hill under the train bridge
• SEE “FROM BOTTOM OF MASTHEAD DRIVE” BELOW

FROM POINTS NORTH & WEST (WORCESTER, MA) VIA. I-90 and/or RT. 146:

• Take Rt. 146 south until it merges with I-95 south
• Take exit 10A on I-95 and head EAST on Rt. 117
• Go straight approx. one mile through one rotary until you reach Rt. 1 (Post Road) at your second rotary
• Turn right (south) onto Rt. 1 (at this second rotary), go straight through a third rotary just to the south, and then travel approx. one mile through your first stop light.
• At the second light (just after the first stop light), turn left onto Masthead Drive (large sign for “Chelo’s Restaurant” on left corner) and go down hill under the train bridge

FROM POINTS SOUTH (NEW YORK & CONNECTICUT) VIA. I-95:

• Take exit 10A on I-95 and head EAST on Rt. 117
• Go straight approx. one mile through one rotary until you reach Rt. 1 (Post Road) at your second rotary
• Turn right (south) onto Rt. 1 (at this second rotary), go straight through a third rotary just to the south, and then travel approx. one mile through your first stop light.
• At the second light (just after the first stop light), turn left onto Masthead Drive (large sign for “Chelo’s Restaurant” on left corner) and go down hill under the train bridge

FROM POINTS SOUTH (RHODE ISLAND) VIA. RT. 1 (Post Road):

• Follow Rt. 1 north
• Travel approx. 12 miles along Rt. 1 after the Rt. 4 split (you may also take Rt. 4 north over to Rt. 401 east and save 5 – 10 minutes) and drive through East Greenwich, RI.
• Soon after entering Warwick, RI (Cowesett) turn right onto Masthead Drive (large sign for “Chelo’s Restaurant” on far right corner) and go down hill under the train bridge
• SEE “FROM BOTTOM OF MASTHEAD DRIVE” BELOW

FROM NEWPORT, RI VIA. RT. 138 and RT. 1 (Post Road):

• Head west on Rt. 138 East over the Newport Bridges
• Turn right on Rt. 1 (Post Road) north
• Travel approx. 12 miles along Rt. 1 after the Rt. 4 split (you may also take Rt. 4 north over to Rt. 401 east and save 5 – 10 minutes)  and drive through East Greenwich, RI.
• Soon after entering Warwick, RI (Cowesett) turn right onto Masthead Drive (large sign for “Chelo’s Restaurant” on far right corner) and go down hill under the train bridge

FROM THE BOTTOM OF MASTHEAD DRIVE:

• At bottom of hill, turn left into Brewer Yacht Yard Cowesett (North)
• Our classroom is located in the brick building immediately on your right
• Park in any available spot that is NOT marked as “Chelo’s Restaurant”client parking only

WHERE TO MEET:

• Plan on meeting inside our office/classroom at the pre-determined time UNLESS we have specifically instructed you to meet down at the docks.
• Please allow extra time for traffic and parking to avoid disrupting the class.
• We will issue you a “parking pass” to put on your dash for the duration of the class.

NOTE ON LUNCHES DURING CLASS:

• Lunch breaks may to too short for students to leave and come back, therefore, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you either pack a lunch OR purchase your lunch on your way into class.  We have a refrigerator available to keep items chilled.
• We will take an 30+ minute lunch break on day one to digest the morning classroom session.  On day two and three, the lunch breaks could be less than 30 minutes.
• Always bring a water bottle or two to stay hydrated.  Don’t forget layers and sunscreen!
