Captain Ed Herlihy

Black Rock Sailing School

Ed started sailing on Lake Massapog at age 10. For the next 35 years sailing was left on the back burner as school and work took priority. At the age of 45, in an effort to connect with his stepson he enrolled both his son and himself in ASA 101. That’s when the sailing bug bit Ed hard. Ed went on to earning his ASA certifications from 101 to 106, then bought an older boat, then earned his ABYC Marine Technician certification and captain’s license. Captain Ed has been an ASA instructor since 2013 and is certified by ASA to teach ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, 106, 114 and 118. In 2020 he brought his sailboat from Warwick, RI. to Fort Myers, FL. and then brought it back in 2021. Captain Ed currently teaches sailing in Rhode Island and Florida, provides services as a charter captain, and does sailing yacht deliveries up and down the Eastern Seaboard.
